I started making shoes for my daughter to run around in since I didn't like what i found in stores.
After getting so many compliments on them I decided to start Flippy Baby and make shoes to sell on line.
At first I made them in more basic and casual styles and very sporadically. Then about two years ago, in the middle of a creative storm where I was surrounded by my fabrics and buttons and ribbons, I was inspired by my favorite period in costume history (Rococo) and came up with a pair of shoes I called ‘Versailles' (of course!).
I had such an amazing response to it that I just had to make more shoes in a similar style and decided to get serious about making them to sell.

I draft the pattern and usually make several samples before I perfect a style. I use silks, laces, embroideries, brocades, felt and cotton prints. I also use many fabrics from my stash, which I have collected for the last 25+ years. That is why there may be slight differences from the pair shown in the photo, specially in linings. That is the beauty of hand made pieces!
They are not mass produced, I cut each pair individually so I can control pattern placement. Each shoe is made of multiple layers and the insole is hand sewn so there are no raw seams inside.
